Through intense research, we were able to gain an insight into the living and organisational situation of people in the asylum process. The continuing rise in the number of refugees is causing an increasing shortage of space in the different Swiss asylum centres. More and more asylum applicants have to share a room, which means that their personal space is very limited and the privacy area is diminishing. This leads to increased potential of conflicts, as traumas, different cultures and individual daily routines collide.
To help solving these issues, we designed Misitu. A modular bed divider which creates a personal space in the bed and allows privacy, intimacy and individual growth for people in the asylum process. Misitu can be flexibly attached to the bed in order to protect the person from outside views and external activities, without creating a feeling of tightness in the inside space. The main material consists of recycled PET-felt-panel-materials from ECHOJAZZ. The material has the advantage of being sound-absorbing and shielding. The trays are made of the same material in order to keep the interior part soft.

«How can privacy for people in an asylum procedure be improved?»
Through intense research, we were able to gain an insight into the living and organisational situation of people in the asylum process. The continuing rise in the number of refugees is causing an increasing shortage of space in the different Swiss asylum centres. More and more asylum applicants have to share a room, which means that their personal space is very limited and the privacy area is diminishing. This leads to increased potential of conflicts, as traumas, different cultures and individual daily routines collide.
To help solving these issues, we designed «Misitu». A modular bed divider which creates a personal space in the bed and allows privacy, intimacy and individual growth for people in the asylum process.

«Misitu» helps the people to live their daily routines and do individual activities without disturbing each other. To make this possible also during nighttime, we have also designed a small light that can be placed wherever needed.

The main material consists of recycled PET-felt-panel-materials from ︎︎︎ECHOJAZZ. The material has the advantage of being sound-absorbing and shielding. It also helps to regulate the room climate and is easy to clean. The trays are made of the same material in order to keep the interior part soft and to keep the production process as simple as possible.
